Enter late winter anxiety

Every year about this time I start to get a little anxious about what’s going on under the snow.  We’re a few days away from 90 days of continuous cover and I always feel better after I’ve physically checked the turf.  Be careful though!  Once you dig up a green and the sweet smell of bentgrass hits your nose, spring fever can flare up and run high.  With 60 more days before grass turns green, that can be dangerous to your brain.

Nerves are at ease for now.  Profile is frozen solid, not much growth under the snow, good color and smell, no snow mold, and a shallow snow pack we should be able to manage with black sand.
